Project Shared Horizons
Project Shared Horizons is a initiative designed to strengthen relationships between Sydney’s Jewish community and remote Aboriginal communities in New South Wales. At its heart, the project is about connection, respect, and mutual learning.
Our team will be visiting Walhallow (Caroona Mission), Murrin Bridge, Weilmoringle, Toomelah, and Boggabilla. In each community, we will deliver a range of resources chosen in consultation with local leaders, including toys for children, books, and educational materials. These practical supports aim to bring joy, promote learning, and respond directly to community-identified needs.
But Project Shared Horizons goes beyond the delivery of goods. Each visit is an opportunity to sit together, listen, and build lasting connections. Our approach is about walking alongside communities, valuing culture, and ensuring that the project is guided by respect and sensitivity.
Equally important is the work that follows. After each visit, our team returns to Sydney, where we engage with schools, synagogues, youth groups, and wider community networks to share stories and insights from the journey. By doing this, we hope to educate and inspire the Jewish community to better understand the realities, strengths, and challenges of Aboriginal communities in New South Wales. This two-way exchange helps create awareness, builds empathy, and bridges cultural divides.
To deliver this project, we have created a dedicated structure of specialist teams:
Community Engagement Team – Works directly with Aboriginal Elders, community leaders, and families to ensure visits are respectful, culturally appropriate, and shaped by local priorities.
Youth & Education Team – Designs interactive programs for children and young people, both in Aboriginal communities and in Jewish schools and youth groups back in Sydney.
Cultural Exchange & Storytelling Team – Documents stories and experiences to share widely, helping to raise awareness and inspire ongoing learning across communities.
Logistics & Operations Team – Manages the safe transport of resources, coordinates travel arrangements, and ensures that every visit runs smoothly and professionally.
Risk & Safety Team – Conducts thorough risk assessments, ensuring that all activities are delivered responsibly and with the wellbeing of participants and communities at the forefront.
Partnership & Development Team – Builds long-term collaborations with government, donors, and community organisations to make sure the project remains sustainable and impactful.
Project Shared Horizons reflects our commitment to creating a stronger, more inclusive society. By linking the heart of Sydney with the heart of regional communities, we aim to nurture bonds that will endure, encourage dialogue across cultures, and ensure that no community feels isolated or forgotten.
Our next mission is scheduled for the 1st of February.
